Bender’s Big Score Rleased

Good news everyone! Futurama has officially returned this week with its direct-to-DVD movie, which was released over in the US on Tuesday November 27th. Unfortunately, there is no release date set for the UK as of yet – which is annoying considering this is a monumental event and I am sure most, if not all, Futurama fans would agree: something this big should have been released globally, not just in the US.

The good news is, I’ve been reading a lot of good reviews on the film and thankfully it sounds like it’s way better than the Simpson’s movie which as I stated earlier here, seemed to tie things up a little to quickly towards the end. So far from what I’ve read it sounds like the Futurama movie doesn’t do that at all and actually has a very good, structured plot to go with it.

I have to say, Futurama is my favourite out of the two shows; and if the Futurama movie didn’t do so well, I think I would start to lose faith in Matt Groening. The Simpson’s is good, don’t get me wrong, I am just more of a sci-fi geek.

The only bad thing I’ve actually heard is that a lot of the humour is based on established themes and inside-jokes, so someone not familiar with the Futurama universe might not pick up on some of the jokes, but for me a Futurama addict, this doesn’t seem like a bad thing at all, as it will make it just that much more enjoyable.

Gimp 2.4.0 Released

Finally the Gimp (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) developers have released version 2.4 of the popular graphics editor. The new version has quite a few improvements over 2.2. In order to get an overview of what’s been changed since 2.2, check out the Release Notes over on the Gimp website. The Gimp site design has also been updated with a brand new look to celebrate the release, which was a bit of a shock at first. If you haven’t visited the site for a while you’ll see what I mean when you do.

The Gimp is probably one of greatest Open Source graphic design tools around and most that have used it would agree that it’s just as good Adobe Photoshop. Still it may be lacking a few features that Photoshop has, But unlike Adobe Photoshop, the Gimp is 100% free to download and use. It also works for every platform: Linux, Mac & Windows. so there’s no excuse not to use it.

To get an Idea of how powerful the Gimp can be check out some of the tutorials over on the Gimp website or better yet check out my sister’s site, skyerosetti.co.uk. Most of her art is produced with the Gimp and it looks fantastic

I Just thought that I would announce: I have added a new section titled “downloads“, a place where I can put a few of my attempts at art and various other things that I am willing to share with the world. At the moment it is small, with a few wallpaper attempts and a couple of banners. It should hopefully grow as time goes by. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

Heroes Art

If like me you enjoy comic book art and have been watching the hit NBC TV show Heroes, you probably would have noticed the recurring paintings and sketches that play a central role throughout the show.

Well they are all created by comic book ilustrater Tim Sale. The body of Sale’s comics work has been with collaborator Jeph Loeb who is also a writer and producer on the show.

The two have produced popular works such as Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory, and the so-called ‘color’ books for Marvel Comics starring characters such as Spider-Man and Daredevil.

Just over a month ago, four of the paintings that where featured in the TV show went up for auction. The paintings that where auctioned marked pivotal moments in the TV series: The Exploding Man, Homecoming, The Eclipse and Hiro Battles The T-Rex the highest bid was a huge $25,000 on the Homecoming painting probably one of the most iconic images in the first season. All the proceeds went to the National Epilepsy Foundation.

Donkey Kong Recreated With Post-it Notes

A group of Students at the UCSC have gotten together to recreated the first level of Donkey Kong by sticking 6,400 Post-it notes to the windows of the E2 building it took the group just over five hours to complete the Donkey Kong masterpieces There is also a time-lapse video of the construction process.
