Slashdot Banners
You have probably already read on this blog that I am an avid Slashdot reader, but I’ve never really wandered far from the main page, or topics until a few days ago. Then I came across the supporters page, which lead me to the super cool logos section. I am not sure, but it doesn’t seem like there have been any recent submissions for a while, so I thought I would make a few attempts myself to go with the new slashdot design, submit a few and see if they get accepted.
They didn’t take that long to make; I just took the current slashdot logo, made a few rectangles and squares with the famous Slashdot green, added a little text and a thin border and viola: some new support banners.
Small – Dimensions: 180 x 60
Here is the first one I did. It’s pretty small and simple, but I like it.
Square – Dimensions 180 x 125
I made the next lot a little bigger so that I could add some extra text. After seeing the words “Slashdot, powered by your submissions!” 10 – 50 times a day I felt compelled to create a banner containing that first. The second concept I did: “Bathing Geeks In Its ‘soothing green light’ since nineteen ninety-seven” came from the ‘Think Geek’ T-shirt.
Horizontal – Dimensions 470 x 60
Basically the same as the square banners, just horizontal.
Enjoy.
Debian Banners
Using the same dimentions that I used to make the slashdot banners I thought I’d have a go at making some Debian banners instead, using 4 different coloured Debian swirls with a silver gradient and a grey border.
Small – Dimensions: 180 x 60
I know the text is not that readble on most, but I tried with various different coloured texts and the black text was the only one that looked right – the white banner looks lost in the small version.
Square – Dimensions 180 x 125
I think these turned out the best, my favourite is the classic red Debian banner. The white banner also looks a lot better in this version.
